Cambridge-based music consultant, teacher, author, editor



Naomi Yandell studied cello with Michael Evans and Ioan Davies. Since reading Music at York University she has pursued a varied career in music publishing (contemporary and educational), consultancy and teaching (cello and music theory).

She works for several music publishers and examination boards and has edited many educational projects including the award-winning Chester’s Music Puzzles by Carol Barratt.  She has also edited many contemporary scores, including those by Geoffrey Burgon, Anthony Payne, Robert Saxton and, most recently, Huw Watkins.  

Naomi is the author of the Theory of Music Workbooks Grades 1-8 for Trinity Guildhall Examinations. She has also written Cello All Sorts composed for young cellists  (Initial - Grade 3).  It contains original compositions as well as arrangements of traditional songs and classics - both old and new.  Six of the original pieces from this book are set in the current Trinity Guildhall cello syllabus.

Naomi has spoken on aspects of theory teaching at seminars and conferences - including The Incorporated Society of Musicians'  Seeds of Change Seminar at King's Place in September 2009 and the MMA Annual Conference in May 2011. She is on the theory examiner panel for Trinity Guildhall Examinations.

Naomi teaches cello and music theory privately. She also teaches at St John’s College School, Stringmoves and at the Pre-Prep department of King's College School, Cambridge. She is a member of the ISM and ESTA.
